This wonderful tour of Palccoyo or “Cordillera del Arco Iris” is one of the new routes that includes a short walk that is 30 to 40 minutes compared to the classic Rainbow Mountain (VININCUNCA), which lasts 6 hours round trip. The Rainbow Mountains are natural rock formations that are composed of stratified layers of sandstone, and these rock layers contain large amounts of iron and other minerals that give the mountains pigments for the various colored lines. It is a day tour and suitable for all levels of physical condition where we will enjoy a beautiful view of the Ausangate mountain which is the largest mountain in our region as well as home to some alpacas and llamas.
In Checacupe, the Inca rope bridge is one of the suspension bridges built on the Pitumayu River during the Inca period, these types of bridges formed a system of trail networks and an excellent example of Inca engineering innovation that were frequently used by the Chaskis (messengers), to be able to deliver the different types of messages throughout the empire and to the King. Since these bridges were very useful, and did not use the wheel transport, traffic was limited to pedestrians and cattle.
The Inca bridge of Queswachaca is one of the typical bridges that can still be seen as each year the different communities come together for reconstruction with an average of one thousand people participating annually.
